Glenayre

A quiet postwar grid on the flats near Barnet Highway, and one of the strongest SSMUH stories in Port Moody.

Overview

Life in Glenayre.

Glenayre is a settled residential neighbourhood of mid-century homes laid out on a regular, mostly flat grid. That flatness is not just character. Level, rectangular lots are the easiest and cheapest kind to build multiple homes on, which is why Glenayre comes up so often in SSMUH conversations.

It is a neighbourhood of long-time owners, mature trees, and easy access west toward Burnaby and SFU. The homes are ageing, which means many owners are weighing what comes next for a property they have held for decades.

What the rules mean here.

Glenayre's flat, regular lots make it one of the more straightforward parts of the city to build under SSMUH, and a number of lots here sit close enough to frequent transit to qualify for up to six units. Confirm any specific lot against the City's zoning map.

The citywide baseline

Across Port Moody, lots from 280 m² to 4,050 m² allow up to four units, rising to six within 400 m of frequent transit, and three on the smallest lots. Glenayre follows this framework, with the local nuances above.
